Mental Health and Disability Support: Why Holistic Care Matters

Stable routines can support wellbeing
Holistic disability support means practical support delivered with awareness, respect, and clear role boundaries. It does not mean a support worker replaces clinical care.
Psychosocial disability and mental health are not the same
Psychosocial disability refers to functional impacts when mental health conditions affect daily life. For eligible participants, NDIS psychosocial supports are generally non-clinical and focused on functional ability and participation.
Clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment are typically health responsibilities rather than NDIS-funded supports.
Why connection matters
AIHW notes links between isolation/loneliness and mental health outcomes, and people with disability experience higher rates of isolation and loneliness.
Clear role boundaries protect participants and workers
What supportive disability care can include
