NDIS Transport Supports: Helping Participants Stay Connected

Transport can be a key part of community participation
Transport can be the difference between participation and isolation. NDIA transport guidance describes multiple transport support levels with set annual amounts linked to circumstances such as work/study and community access goals.
Transport can mean a transport budget, a support worker helping someone travel safely, and capacity-building supports like travel training. Which option applies depends on goals, disability impacts, and “reasonable and necessary” criteria.
Funding boundaries matter
Transport funding is not automatic. It must be discussed and linked to disability-related barriers and goals. Some day-to-day costs are not NDIS supports, and transport is not intended to fund general lifestyle travel.

How to describe need in planning
Explain why public transport isn’t realistic, what essential destinations are, and what outcomes you’re working toward.
